The Movie You Should Rent this Weekend

Stranger Than FictionToday I was reminded of a movie I love.  Stranger Than Fiction boasts a top-tier list of actors and got great reviews, but somehow it didn’t do well in the theaters.  I suspect that is because it was released at the height of Will Ferrell’s popularity as an off-color-humor leading man, and in this role he is none of the sort but rather is serious, likeable, intelligent, and very low key.  Rotten Tomatoes complains that the metaphysical lesson is too tidy – but still it garnered a 72% approval.

This story is sweet and engaging, and you should rent it.  Don’t even bother with reading the description, because it does not do justice to the movie.  The story unfolds slowly and has no particular special effects.  But stick with it.  If you are the type of person that gets engaged in the characters and the depth of circumstance, you will find this movie extraordinary. Sometimes I actually do think about choices in terms of, “… the type of life being led and the quality of the pancakes.”

    How funny!

I was just thinking about this movie recently- its one of my favorites. I am not a huge fan of Ferrell’s work, but this role really stuck with me. How sweet is the scene with the flours?! Keep up the good work!
