Keeping Your Farmville Up with the Jones

For a short while, I tried to play Farmville to interact with relatives from out of state.  It quickly overwhelmed my time – which means that I became exasperated with its constant need for attention.  Between my large family and my business, I did not need another entity clamoring for my attention.  So I quit.  No regrets.

We already know that the game is widely considered a time suck.  But this article at Wired explores the lengths – and expense – that some people will go to keep up their farms.  It’s almost an addiction.  That’s extraordinary. 

The game companies that produce these diversions are turning large profits.  Not that profits are bad.  It goes to show how much people are willing to pay for a hobby, for more control, for social interaction, or for entertainment, depending on their own needs and desires
